empire builder is playing in minot this saturday. i haven’t played a show in minot since the early ’90’s. i’m excited and nervous and happy to see my old and new friends. maybe i’ll see you there.
i saw this link on my can of murrays this morning and decided to check it out. i’ve seen it before; but i always forget about it by the time i’m on the internet. reading the site brought back all sorts of memories.
firstly; i believe our group found murray’s at the drug store in the west acres mall and were hooked. i remember i tried a couple of other products as well but murray’s was clearly the superior product. this would be about 14 years ago. several of my peers used it and i’m sure that some still do. for the longest time i thought it was our little secret and also that we didn’t know or have access to real pomade that other people used.
imagine my surprise when at a ‘me first and the gimme gimme’s’ show i saw one guitar player toss an orange tin to another band member prior to their set. wha?!? other people (punks!?) know about murray’s?
but now, after reading the website, it looks like george clooney, justin timberlake and leonardo dicaprio are also aware of the product.
lastly, i’ve never used anything other than ‘original’ and ‘light’ but after seeing brian setzer using ‘nunile’ i ordered some up.
how do i do this? do i refer to people by name? my brother and his wife are coming to fargo on friday and we’re going to this. it’s at the local community theater which will be a nice venue for something like this. i’m currently enrolled in an NDSU comm class and we’re building a website about local theater. can i pass this off as theater and write up a review for an assignment? normally i’d say washed up ’80s punks doing anything in front of a live audience would constitute acting but rollins, incredibly, has maintained much of his street cred throughout his career. i’d actually argue that henry is more legitimate now than he was when he was touring w/ you know who. he always seemed like a misfit in that band; he wasn’t the original frontman or the most hardcore. he was hardcore, for sure, but it was this weird athletic and cleancore that just didn’t vibe w/ blackflag. i’m excited to see him as he’s always been a hero and an inspiration. i’m glad he’s still touring.
here’s rollins w/ bill stevenson(!) on the right. via http://www.bbc.co.uk/music/sevenages/artists/black-flag/
